"And... thanks for the lift." -- Unknown

Bikes are two-wheeled motor vehicles which are a common mode of transportation in Cloudbank.

History[]

Preston Moyle, a four-year record-breaking biker who popularized 1200cc racing and became a celebrity in Cloudbank's racing circuit, used to build his bikes personally. His fastest custom bike, which tracked him heading northwest across the canals and recorded his laughter while speeding through the Goldwalk District, was the only object from Moyle's personal effects which was with him on the night of his disappearance, and was not found in the same place as his body.

Five community bikes are stored at the entrance to the East 64 onramp to Goldwalk's Expressway. One, whose condition is listed as "like new," is borrowed by Red and Unknown as they leave Goldwalk Promenade. Unknown had guided Red to the bike as a way for them both to get out of town, but Red heads deeper into Cloudbank instead and is forced to abandon the bike at Goldwalk Boulevard when blocky rows of pillars spawned by the Process rise in their path. Red later retrieves the bike and returns it to Goldwalk Promenade, where the Process has already consumed the other four bikes. Unknown, who had referred to the bike as "our beautiful bike," muses that it deserves better than to be wiped out like "all its bike friends," and bids it farewell with "See you in the Country, Mr. Bike."

During the Expressway cutscenes, which feature Red biking rightward away from the Promenade and leftward returning to it, the player can control the bike's acceleration, causing yellow fire to spurt from its exhaust pipe. Each cutscene ends with the bike accelerating hard and disappearing offscreen.

Trivia[]

  • While similar vehicular cutscenes occur later in the game, involving a speedboat, various lifts, and the Process itself, the bike is the only vehicle that Red uses twice.
  • Red's bike appears in the icon for the game's Drive() Achievement.
