Help() is a Function of the Transistor. It is derived from Sybil Reisz's Trace, which is absorbed into the Transistor upon defeating her in the Empty Set.
Help() is an offensive Function that can be used to summon a friendly Fetch called Friend to aid the User. Friends operate similar to Red during Turn(), though they can only utilize one Function themselves: Bark(). Placing Cull() as an upgrade to Help with give Friends another Function called Sic(), which operates the same as the User's Check() Function.
Calling a Friend outside of combat areas will cause it to despawn shortly after. The User can only have one Friend active at a time. Having multiple instances of Help() as Active Functions cannot be used to spawn multiple Friends; attempting to spawn another Friend when one is already present will cause the older one to despawn. The only way to have more than one Friend active at a time is to upgrade Help() with Spark(), which will spawn two slightly smaller and less strong Friends.
Installing Help() as an Upgrade to most other Functions provides the active Functions a 50% chance to prevent Cells from spawning after a Process is Terminated, though Jaunt(), Mask(), and Switch() have unique interactions. Installing Upgrades to Help() provides buffs for Friends.
Installing Help() in a Passive slot will create a 25% chance of granting the User SuperUser permissions. The SuperUser has a Function called Kill(), which will deal 500 damage in an area of effect towards all targets, regardless of defense ratings (though Protected still blocks this). Upon becoming SuperUser, nothing other than Kill() and movement can be used during that Turn(). In that situation, leaving Turn() and entering it again initiates a non-SuperUser Turn().

Background[]
Known in elite social circles throughout Cloudbank, Ms. Sybil Reisz organized many of the city's popular public events, from ground-breaking ceremonies to contemporary festivals. She was everywhere, and yet somehow she made time to lead a second, hidden life. As one of the Camerata, Ms. Reisz was responsible for gathering information about potential high-value targets, people who could contribute for their cause. She did this job to perfection, drawing no notice, though one target in particular caused her much frustration.
Meeting Red[]
Ms. Reisz met Red while putting together a small program for up-and-coming artists, and became infatuated first with Red's music then with her. According to diary entries there was something inscrutable and confident about Red that Ms. Reisz could not explain. However, Ms. Reisz was frustrated to find that Red grew increasingly distant. Through all this, Ms. Reisz observed the aloofness of one of Red's companions, and decided he must have been insinuating Red against her. Ms. Reisz considered various ways to rectify this.
Recommendations[]
One night Ms. Reisz nominated Red as a target for her Camerata colleagues, citing Red's surging popularity in the city and her unusual set of selections. Red could substantially advance the Camerata's agenda, and was not yet so ubiquitous that her sudden disappearance couldn't be sufficiently disguised. Ms. Reisz promised that the Camerata could get to Red at a time when she would be completely alone. Trace data reveals an 85% chance she falsified this claim.
Trivia[]
- Internally, Help() is known as "Summon."
- Once Help() is acquired, Red will gain access to the Sandbox. After using Help() in combat, a Friend appears in the Sandbox. Interacting with this Friend, whom Unknown names "Luna," will make the Friend run towards the ball and bark at it. Unlike Friends summoned by Help(), Luna does not disappear.
- Royce Bracket will not attack any Friends called in his showdown with Red. Upon a Friend's initial spawn, he will taunt Red, suggesting she cannot beat him on her own ("can't cut it alone?")
- Sybil is the only member of the Camerata whose Trace is not said to be recorded by the Transistor. Instead, her Trace Status is integrated. This is likely due to the fact that unlike the other members' functions, Help() can only be acquired after Sybil's defeat and subsequent integration.
- Unlike Fetches, Friends are orange instead of white.
- When SuperUser activates in a Turn, Red's appearance changes drastically. She appears to be a mannequin-like woman, floating over a design that matches the Transistor's "eye." This design originates from early concept art for Transistor, where Red was initially intended as a spirit companion to Unknown, who was at that point intended to be the player character.
