"Lillian Platt used to run the OVC. Said she left for personal reasons." -- Unknown
Lillian Platt was a communications scientist who lived in Cloudbank. Her Trace carried the Spark() Function.
Appearance[]
Lillian was a pale-skinned woman with long wavy black hair. She wore a multi-layered greenish-teal short sleeved dress that had a yellow inner component, a yellow fringe design on its sleeves, and a yellow circuit-like design on the outer edge of its collar, as well as makeup and squarish dangle earrings.
At 77% Processed, as Red finds her, the lower half of her body had vanished, and the lower half of her arms appear stark white, as Process squares appear to have grown on her. In this state, one of her legs appears to "melt" through her dress.
Background[]
Described in her Function Files as "one of the preeminent scientific minds in Cloudbank," Lillian Platt was, at age 31, one of the youngest-ever individuals to be elected as Chairwoman of the OVC Board. She had Selected Physics and Negotiation, citing wanting to help with "problem solving." During her approximately two years of tenure, she increased the amount of Terminals available throughout Cloudbank substantially, as well as strengthened the OVC's broadcasts quality tremendously.
She was close friends with Maximilias Darzi until his death at the hands of the Camerata, after which she left her position in the OVC, claiming a desire to pursue extracurricular interests. Her former OVC colleagues associated her departure with Darzi's death, describing the two as close personal friends.
Following her departure, she sought to investigate the circumstances surrounding her friend's death on her own, refusing to involve the authorities for undisclosed reasons. Personal records state that she started seeking out urban legends and rumors concerning an unusual phenomenon sighted at the northwestern corner of the city, as well as the rash of disappearances over the past 12 months.
Other records note that she engaged in clandestine discussion with the Camerata, who claimed to have knowledge of the circumstances surrounding Darzi's death. She arranged to meet with them at an unmarked port near Goldwalk Bay. The Camerata saw her as a meddler and used the Transistor to kill her there, making sure that her integration site and her last known location were far apart from each other. In the two weeks following her disappearance, the OVC declared that the investigation's trail had gone cold, though the authorities hadn't completely ruled out foul play.
After her death, her partially Processed body is found by Red in the Goldwalk Promenade, lying prone with her Trace floating above her. After asking the Trace if she is all right, Unknown tells Red that she has asked to accompany them and that they can use her. After the Transistor acquires the Trace and its Function, Unknown relays a greeting from her, telling Red that she says her name is Lillian.
Trivia[]
- Lillian Platt is the first partially-processed person to be found by Red and Unknown, and hers is the first Trace to become accessible to Red aside from the two available when the Transistor first came into her hands.
- Either the Cradle or the Transistor may be the "unusual phenomenon sighted in the northwestern corner of the city" about which rumors and urban legends spread, later to be investigated by Lillian Platt. The fact that she learned the truth in her last moments of life makes it likely that the phenomenon was the Transistor.
- Although Lillian's Function Files place the time of her integration two weeks before the game's events, her body is found still mostly present in what may be the spot where she was killed, suggesting that Goldwalk had not been thoroughly searched after her disappearance. Subsequent encounters confirm that duplicate Traces may still be gathered from individuals already integrated by the Transistor even if their bodies are found long after death, with the new data simply making their Functions freshly accessible to the Transistor's new User if not yet acquired through leveling up.
- A chyron headline associated with two news posts by Amelia Garbur, both dated 6/27/67, read, "Chief Inspector: Foul Play Not Ruled Out in Platt Case."
- When Red later returns to the unmarked Goldwalk port, only trace particles remain where Lillian's body had been found. Unknown remarks: "Lady we found here. Body's gone, but her Trace is with us."
- Lillian Platt's Trace Bank is in the second row, second from right, numbered 105. Although Trace Banks are not ordered according to date of death, hers is side by side with that of her friend Maximilias Darzi, whose Trace Bank is numbered 106.
