A Proxy is a method of live remote communication in Cloudbank. It is used by Royce Bracket. Unlike communication via OVC terminals, a Proxy can accompany its conversational partner, permitting discourse to take place in real time while moving between locations.
Overview[]
Royce Bracket's Proxy resembles a floating cathode-ray tube monitor with a short plug trailing behind it. When the screen is visible, it is entirely filled by Bracket's face, providing no hint as to his location.
The Proxy cannot be damaged by the Transistor. It remains neutral if caught in a battle, generating an impenetrable shield around itself so that it cannot be harmed during the conflict. It faces either its conversational partner or the direction in which it is moving, usually remains at a consistent height from the ground, and is always oriented upright with respect to local gravity.
History[]
Red encounters the Proxy waiting for her in an unmarked alley east of Goldwalk Bay. Bracket uses it to make contact with her from his Residence on Fairview Island, thus ensuring that she cannot attack him prematurely while he leads her across Fairview and discloses his history with the Transistor.
Upon arrival at the Bracket Residence, a slight delay causes the Proxy to echo Bracket's voice as he, now physically present, speaks into a terminal. As Red moves along the path, the Proxy rises to Bracket's location and turns itself off to let Bracket finish his monologue personally.
