"Classic." -- Unknown

We All Become is the seventeenth track in the album Transistor: Original Soundtrack. Its instrumental release is the sixteenth track in the album Transistor: Original Soundtrack (Extended). We All Become was written and produced by Darren Korb, with vocals provided by Ashley Barrett.

A shortened version of the song plays during the Empty Set cutscene, where Red rehearses it after her show. The same shortened version was used in the game's Reveal Trailer. An orchestral rendition of the song was released as part of Supergiant Games' 10th Anniversary Album, The Songs of Supergiant Games.

Within the context of the game, We All Become, like the other vocal tracks, is a song written and performed by Red during her career as a singer. Unknown is familiar with its lyrics and may quote or sing it within the game, and it is implied that it was the last song she rehearsed before losing her voice at the Empty Set.

Lyrics[]

Official lyrics from the Bandcamp album release:

When you speak I hear silence
Every word a defiance
I can hear, oh, I can hear

Think I'll go where it suits me
Moving out to the Country
With everyone, oh, everyone
Before we all become one

You tell yourself that you're lucky
But lying down never struck me
As something fun, oh, any fun

Stabbing pain for the feeling
Now your wound's never healing
'Til you're numb, oh, it's begun
Before we all become one

Oh we all, we all become one
Oh we all, we all become one
Oh we all, we all become one
Oh we all, we all become one
Stop grieving, start leaving
Before we all become one

Run

Oh we all, we all become

Trivia[]

  • Unknown will briefly hum this song if the player alters certain audio settings.
  • Upon using Jaunt() for the fifth time, Unknown quotes its lyrics, saying, "'Go where it suits you,' right?"
  • Sybil Reisz will hum this song when Red meets her in the Empty Set.
  • We All Become is the first song unlocked in the Sandbox. When it is played in the Music Player there, Unknown may remark, "Classic."
  • While under the effects of the Spine in Highrise, Unknown may sing parts of this song when Red hums.
    • In Recursion mode, Sybil will sing the lyrics instead of humming the tune.
  • The repeated theme of "all becoming one" as an undesirable capitulation to a status quo may allude to the consensus-based politics of Cloudbank, where individuals struggle to gain enough voteshare for their contributions to be valued; mirror the goal of the Camerata, who schemed together "as one" to aggregate individual voices into an inhuman tool to control the population; or inadvertently foretell the eventual fate of Cloudbank's citizens, who came together "shoulder to shoulder" as the Process integrated them indiscriminately into the city's landscape. It also contrasts with the lyrics of Signals, whose longing for genuine community in the line "keep pretending we're one" paints a bleak picture of the city's performative unity.
  • We All Become may have been the second song written for the game.[1]
